2022/Mar/24-25 Farewell Party for M2

We held a farewell party for M2/Shogo Nozaki,Yuta Kuroiwa and Keisuke Ota. We had an online farewell party on March 24 and on 25th we had group photo taken by a professional photographerfor which was organized by the PR group of IMR. After M2 got their diploma at the Graduate School, Professor Kato directly presented them it. When they joined Kato Lab in April 2020, COVID-19 was just starting to appear in Japan, and from that time to all the way to their graduation, there were no lab events nor IMR events for two years. They spent their lab life avoiding to contact with others, with lab seminars online and the conferences also online. They spent whole academic years affected by COVID-19. Because of the disaster, most of our contacts were via e-mail, which made the e-mail-hater Oota stand out in some way. And the word "Ootar" (a person asts like Oota) was created. When we told him that after he starts working in this society, he should be careful because he would lose credibility and be hung out alone in society, he said, "With no responsibility, yes, I'll rather welcome it". This attitude is truly the Ootest! Dear all M2, congratulations on your graduation! Next time we meet, let's do a face-to-face Nomikai!

2022/Feb/2 Farewell Party for D3/Jeong

We had a farewell party for our D3 student Jeong who would going back to his home country, Korea to start his job. Because the quarantine restriction on returnees to Korea would be tightened from February 4, he hurriedly took procedures to return home before February 3. He had just finished his doctoral defense in mid-January and he had to leave the laboratory in a flurry. While doing his general PhD course, he needed to take additional credits as a GP-MS student (Tohoku University International Joint Graduate Program in Materials Science) and he was also selected as a JSPS Research Fellow DC2.I'm sure he had a fulfilling graduate school life. There were always Koreans in Kato Lab for several years, but now he is the last Korean. We wish you all the best in your future, Annyeong!

2022/Jan/7 Farewell Party for Special Appointed Assistant Prof.Jiang and Welcome Party for Assistant Prof.Yamada

Special Appointed Assistant Prof.Jiang entered Tohoku Univ. and joined Kato lab as Doctor student in April 2016, and after the course, he has contributed to our research and education. After taking a group photo near Honda Memorial Hall, we had a short face-to-face farewell party. At night, we held an online farewell party and welcome party for Assistant Professor Yamada. At the welcome party, each of us introduced ourselves and asked questions to Asst.Prof.Yamada, which allowed us to get to know him and know more about lab members. Asst.Prof.Yamada used to be good at futsal games at the national level. He spent his student life practicing it a lot, we are sure that Kato Lab will win the IMR Futsal Tournament in the future. At the farewell party for Asst.Prof.Jiang, Assoc.Prof.Wada was in charge of the farewell speech but he had an accident and needed to leave the party for a while. So each of us had goodbye speech to her. There were some scenes of tears, and it was a warm and heartfelt farewell party even online.. We are looking forward to seeing her again in the near future, 再会!!

2021/Sep/30 Farewell party for Datekyu-san

Datekyu-san has finally graduated from Kato-lab. We have often taken a group photo in front of Dr. Honda's statue, but it has become a rut, so this time we took a photo at the Honda Memorial Hall entrance. It looks Good! We wish him all the best in his future life!

2021/Aug/6 Drinking party to celebrate PD and M2

We held a summer online drinking party to celebrate for those finished job-hunting (PD and M2). M1 students were very interested in the stories of their job hunting activities. We talked a lot about how a life goes and there is no right answer. After closing the first NOMIKAI, we had second one and Nakamura-san, an alumnus who graduated in March 2021, joined us from Saitama Prefecture. His stories about his work and dormitory life were very interesting. Some of the members went to the third party, which lasted until 3:30, probably because the next day was the beginning of a summer holiday.

2021/Apr/30 Welcome party

We had a welcome party for our new members, Assistant Prof.Wei and M1 (Kota Kurabayashi, Akira Nakata, Satoshi Nomura, Bowen Tang, and Pengfei Zhu). We had a lot of fun talking about Anime, movies, mahjong, sports, and even about hairstyles for some reason. Since it's hard to hold a sporting event, we planned to have a cultural activity, such as an instrumental ensemble with violin, piano, saxophone, recorder, castanets, singing, etc. Can we realize?
